Sound travels at 1100 feet per second. What distance could it conceivably travel before it finally loses it energy? Is it dependent on how much energy is produced in conjunction with that sound?

It will be subject to dampening on a continuous basis. Sound waves are dampened according to an inverse square law, where sound level drops as function of the square of the distance traveled.

Amount of dampening depends on the medium it is traveling through.

The dampening will continue until all energy is dissipated – long after you can still hear it. So, the sound will still propagate, or move, through the medium long after you are unable to hear it.

The length of time you will still be able to hear the sound will depend on how much energy the original sound had, and the medium it traveling in.

I just started teaching piano in September. I haven't made much money, does anyone know what the minimum is to file as a small business?
Thanks!

Dear Tawn: You are in the eyes of the IRS a Sole Proprietor and if you make $400 or more you are required to file a tax return You will use Sch. C or Sch. CEZ, and the information entered on this form will go back to the 1040. See IRS Pub. 17 page 8. If you use your home for business (piano lessons) you can deduct some of your home expense. See IRS Form 8829. It is not uncommon for a first year business to show a loss on your Sch C. but the IRS will watch your business to see you are making progress toward becoming profitable and if not they will consider your endeavor to be a hobby.

This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provide. Click on my profile to read more.

When you are traveling, trying to get noticed, what are some ways to make money on the road? I am planning to travel the country with a friend of mine and I was wondering what could work for money making while away from home.

Call the local tv stations in every city you visit. Ask if you can appear on their morning show at 6am and play. THey need entertainment at that hour.
Call all the local rock radio shows, too. They always have room for a musician or two.
They hope that you get discovered..
