Is Information Technology a good choice of course?

Hi! My name is Karl and I am planning to take up Information Technology in college because I really am fond of computers and the internet. I just want to know the following:
1. What is Information Technology all about?
2. What are the possible jobs that I can have after I finished studying Information Technology?

1) Information in the narrow sense is about the use of computers to accomplish tasks and the associated maintenance of said systems.
2) Well, the use of computers is prevalent everywhere now, so the most important part of getting jobs working with computers these days are not general skills, but coupling knowledge of computers with specific knowledge other subject matter. Everyone has to specialize to some degree, so pick another subject you find interesting to tie in 
In broad measure, the IT world falls into the category of people who administer systems, and people who program (although that line is blurry).
1. The Technology that is used to handle Information. Duh. Seriously, this is an amazingly over-broad question.
2. Programmer, researcher, manager, UI designer, technical support, hardware designer. The list goes on.
