What are the benefits of having a single religion in a country?

What are the benefits of having one religion (like in Martin Luther times for example) in a country? I cant find anything on the internet, any ideas?
Everyone is persecuting the same group of people, so those people's lives are really screwed up.
Try looking under Iran.
The benefits are mindless uniformity, the oppression of any minorities and the suppression of free thought.
These are also the downsides. How you feel about them will tell an awful lot about you.

The best possibility would be NO religion. Science would advance rapidly and there would be less strife. Personal rights would be returned. People would be a lot happier.

Only having one religion or ideology means that people must be suppressed and oppressed. There are no long term benefits.
