What education is needed to be a data miner?

extract useful tidbits from mountains of data, pinpointing behavior patterns for marketers and epidemiologists alike.
but what education do they need?
Good maths, including statistics. Enough database and programming skills to implement whatever methods may be needed. Maybe some sort of specialist knowledge of whatever the data refers to, e.g. supermarket stock and purchasing.
A high school education, a little post-high-school math and the ability and desire to learn constantly. (As technology changes you have to keep learning new techniques.)
