What tourist attractions in Washington DC require advance reservations?

Posted on 29 March 2009 by admin

My parents and I will visit only Washington DC for 3 days, from April 15 to April 17, 2009. What top tourist attractions require reservations/ticket purchase in advance to get in and how far (days/weeks) in advance do I have to reserve/purchase ticket? Aside from the Capitol and White House, what else? Thanks for your help.

Actually, you can get a tour of the Capitol without an advance reservation. Reservations are only needed if you want a "VIP" tour organized through your Congressman or Senator.

You can order tickets for the Holocaust Museum in advance to ensure that you'll be able to enter at the time you want.

And you know about the White house—at this point you're probably too late to obtain tickets.

I can't think of anything else….

If you want to see a play or concert while you're here, I'd suggest booking in advance for prime seats. Although they also have great last minute ticket offers at most places as long as the show isn't sold out.

In addition to the Holocaust Museum, the Spy Museum also takes advance reservations so that you can walk in at a certain time. If you plan to go the Spy Museum, go there in the morning and purchase a ticket for the time you want to go in. In high tourist season (April-June), those tickets can sellout for the day by lunchtime.

    Have a good trip!
