   If you're going for most bang for the buck: Potomac (Potomac Village) — an unicorporated area of Montgomery County, Maryland. CNN tagged it as home to "…the Washington, D.C., area's wealthiest residents. Multimillion-dollar homes and estates fill the town, which sits on the banks of the river for which it was named."

   In the CNN survey, Potomac barely beat out McClean, Virginia.

   For the "posh" of a different era, check out Hillwood — the Marjorie Merriweather Post estate — nestled between Rock Creek Park and Van Ness / Connecticut Avenue NW.
